Don Vino and Jonathan Rubain present Intimate Nights Chapter 2 - The Live DVD and CD Recording at the Baxter Concert Hall from 4 to 6 September at 8.15pm.

After the success of the first installment of Intimate Nights Chapter 2, Cape Town audiences have the chance to be part of the recording of this inspiring show from two of Cape Town’s most exciting musical talents. The pair has each written new material for this performance, so there's something new for everyone.

The production includes originally composed music, a selection of tributes and, of course, their banter, which make for an enjoyable and intimate evening in the company of these two gifted musicians.

Since the last run, the duo has been touring with Grammy award winner, saxophonist and songwriter Kirk Whalum. Whalum toured with Whitney Houston for more than seven years and soloed in her single I Will Always Love You, the best-selling single by a female artist in music history.

“2014 has been an incredible year,” says Don Vino. “Having the opportunity to present our first show together at the Baxter, then touring with the legend Kirk Whalum – it has been a dream come true.”

“We’re excited to be returning with Intimate Nights Chapter 2, including new material,” says Rubain. “Recording the DVD is a particularly special occasion as it’s an opportunity for our supporters -  the people who keep us coming back – to be part of permanently capturing our journey. It’s our way of saying thank you for the love.”

Don Vino has performed with jazz and gospel bands in and around Cape Town since he was fifteen. His illustrious career has seen him tour to the USA, Europe, Dubai and Australia and included playing with the likes of Lady Smith Black Mambazo, Tevin Campbell, Percy Sledge, Lloyd Cele, Loyiso Bala, Jimmy Dludlu, Victor Masondo, Judith Sephuma, PJ Powers, Tony Schilder, Bebe Winans and Jimmy Earl Perry, among many others. Don Vino has also appeared in many musical theatre shows and is a sought-after musical director, having worked on productions such as David Kramer’s Three Wise Men; Kat and The Kings and Blood Brothers, as well as Alistair Izobell’s Radio Classics and Slick Swing. He is a regular performer at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and he has been running their Training and Development programme since 2011.

Rubain leads The Jonathan Rubain Band, which is a firm festival favourite in and around Cape Town. In 2010 they launched their first album, Happy People and they have performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, as well as the Festival’s Community Concerts where their performances have received glowing reviews from the audience and media, alike.  He has played with legends such as Mac McKenzie, Errol Dyers and Robbie Jansen and with the Cape Jazz Band and the Goema Captains of Cape Town, both locally as well as internationally in France and Malaysia. His track ‘I wish I could Groove’, features on the Goemarati CD compilation. Rubain has also worked with David Kramer on The David Kramer and Taliep Petersen Songbook; Three Wise Men; Krismis van Map Jacobs and Some Like it Vrot. He played host to the likes of Zane Meas, 2011 SAMA winner Patrick Duncan, Christo Davids and Maurice Paige when he single-handedly presented the production which was the first of its kind for Cape Town, 'The Ultimate Men's Celebration'. Recently his song, Reason to Smile reached No. 1 on Heart 104.9fm’s SA Top Ten charts.
