ENDLER KONSERTREEKS met Roelof Temmingh (en Zorada)
7 Maart 2015
Endlersaal, Stellenbosch

Roelof Temmingh het waarskynlik in sy skrale agtien jaar reeds meer akkolades ontvang as die meeste gewone sterflinge in ’n leeftyd. Elkeen welverdiend.

Dit is my wens …

Julle is ’n manjifieke paar.

ENDLER CONCERT SERIES with Roelof Temmingh (and Zorada)
7 March 2015
Endler Hall, Stellenbosch

Roelof Temmingh has probably received more accolades in his brief eighteen years than lesser mortals do in a lifetime – each one of them well deserved. It is difficult to say something new about this charming gentleman’s virtuosity. Therefore a short letter to the young maestro instead:

Dear Roelof

Please look after your precious hands? They are the hands of a prodigy and need to yield those exquisite sounds for many years to come. Vibratos that tug at heartstrings. Soothing sounds filled with pianissimos and glissandos and adagios that comfort bleeding souls. Concertos, sonatas, scherzos, suites, fugues and fantasias that enthuse audiences in faraway concert halls. For I do not doubt that you are world-class and destined for fame.

It is my wish …

  • that fame will never dull you so that you lose your empathy with mankind
  • that you will always maintain the sparkle of debonair youth – also when your fame is established
  • that you will always be strong, so that when the applause dies away you will not be left lonely or vulnerable, and if that does happen, there will always be a significant other to carry you through dark times
  • that fame will never exhaust you to the extent that you lose the joy and the enthusiasm that you draw from your music and radiate to those around you.

Please, never let your music become silent?

May I add one thing in conclusion: time and time again your ingenuity at the keys takes my breath away, and when I close my eyes I imagine that I am listening to an old, seasoned pianist, because your musical sensitivity and insight are much older that your eighteen years.

Thank you, too, Zorada, that your talent inspires to such an extent. You are a magnificent pair.
