LitNetter!

Hy werk tans as ontwerper in Kaapstad. Die rooi en swart is nog daar.

Dis ’n nuwe en meer vaartbelynde LitNet.

Bou jou eie LitNet

Nou is jy ’n LitNet-kommentator.

“Hoe verseker ek dat my opinie gou vertoon?”

Skep ’n LitNet-profiel

Wanneer jy registreer, skep jy terselfdertyd ’n LitNet-profiel. Jy kan kies of jy hierdie profiel sigbaar wil maak of wil versteek.

Indien jy as ’n sakeonderneming ’n profiel wil skep, stuur ’n e-pos aan sakeprofiel@litnet.co.za.

Kyk waarvan ander LitNetters hou

Vind materiaal makliker

Belangrik: Vir elke LitNet-node of -onderafdeling (bv Menings, LitNet Akademies, Vermaak) is ’n eie invalsblad geskep.

Navorsing in ’n kits!

Groete

LitNetter!

LitNet turns 13 this week and I’m bringing you a birthday present: the brand-new LitNet!

LitNet has always been a “coalition of the willing” – you’ve brought us your longings and angry opinions, your clever arguments and your risque submissions.

The LitNet archives are bulging with this great energy that has been growing for the past 13 years. Thank you very much for that. Thank you to the entire LitNet community – my hardworking core team in the LitNet office in Dorp Street, Stellenbosch, our worldwide network of collaborators, my partners, and also, of course, our sponsors and advertisers – as well as every LitNet community members who has contributed and got involved.

Now: the new LitNet, which I’m very excited about.

What should you be looking for?

Look at the new logo | Build your own LitNet | Become a LitNet commentator | Create a LitNet profile | See what other LitNetters like | Use the LitNet calendar | Find material more easily | Enjoy our RSS feeds | Share on social networks | LitNet Akademies | Visit our archives | Quick results with our new search function

Look at the new logo

The brand-new logo is symbolic of new times. The logo was designed by Nathaniel Goto. Goto is originally from Zimbabwe and studied graphic art in Zimbabwe and London. He works as a designer in Cape Town. The red and black are still there.

It’s a new and more streamlined LitNet.

Build your own LitNet

Now you can build your own LitNet.

LitNetters live and move in different virtual neighbourhoods – from LitNet Akademies to LêNet attracts activity.

Look at our menu (immediately below the masthead) and select Kopstukke/Brainy, Oopkop/Mindful or LigwegNoSweat. Click on the Refresh page link. Only material in those categories will then form part of your LitNet.

Become a LitNet commentator

Every LitNetter can now comment on literally every LitNet contribution. LitNet is set to become a hive of active opinions, and you can add your voice.

“How do I do that?” you may ask.

Go to Teken in/Sign in, click on Register, decide on your LitNet screen name, and you’re away. Now you’re a LitNet commentator.

Please note: A comment remains hidden until a member of the LitNet team has approved it. We want to ensure that when you read comments you will find only interesting, sharp ideas there.

Ideas that promote critical debate.

“How do I ensure that my opinion will be promptly displayed?” It’s very simple: Make a meaningful contribution, formulate your comment briefly and to the point, write as “tidily” as possible, and hey presto – we “unhide” your comment in a flash.

Everyone – not only registered LitNetters – will be able to read your comment.

Create a LitNet profile

When you register, you simultaneously create a LitNet profile. You can choose whether you’d like to make this profile visible or hide it.

Once you have a profile on LitNet you don’t have to send a contribution by e-mail – you can enter the text directly on to the LitNet page, where it will be scrutinised by someone on the editorial team.

You can also be informed by e-mail when someone comments on your contribution.

Another point: When you’ve created your profile you can display everything you’ve contributed to LitNet on your profile page. In this way your profile page becomes a proud record of your thinking.

Remember that you can control and amend your profile. You can link it to your Facebook profile or a personal blog. You can even decide which of your LitNet contributions will be seen first by readers visiting your profile.

If you prefer not to display a photo of yourself we’ll put the little LitNet man there as an avatar.

I hope that accomplished LitNet contributors who have come a long way with us will take ownership of their profiles and help us to make their LitNet contributions more visible.

If you are a business venture wishing to create a profile for business reasons, send an e-mail to businessprofile@litnet.co.za.

See what other LitNetters like

Keep abreast of our latest contributions by looking at Latest articles on the right of the home page. You will also be able to see which LitNet contributions are popular (Most read), which have drawn the most comments (Most comments), which have been most forwarded to others (Most shared), and even which pieces have been Most recommended.

Use the LitNet calendar

We now have a LitNet calendar and you, the LitNet community, are invited to display important events on it. Watch the calendar for book launches, arts festivals, theatre productions, music concerts, academic conferences, etc.

Find material more easily

Important: Every LitNet node or subsection (eg Opinions, LitNet Akademies, Entertainment) now has its own index page. For example, the Writers and Books node now has its own landing page / index page which will show all LitNet content relating to writers and books.

Enjoy our RSS feeds

By means of RSS feeds we bring many interesting voices from everywhere right into your virtual home as good reading matter is fed into every index page from related websites. In this way LitNet becomes your one-stop drop-in site on the worldwide web.

On the LitNet side you can also subscribe to RES feeds of all the articles or from specific sections. Click on this link and follow the simple instructions at the top of the page.

You can join in and integrate LitNet with social network content via, among others, the e-mail button and the Facebook link. Send LitNet content to your friends’ and contacts’ laptops, tablets or cell phones in an instant.

Also visit LitNet’s Facebook profile LitNet Web (and since that is now jam-packed, LitNet Web Twee). Become a friend of LitNet.

LitNet Akademies

Regarding LitNet Akademies: Here we have a unique concept for what is traditionally called an “academic journal”, and LitNet is extremely proud of this node for accredited academic writing in Afrikaans. The LitNet Akademies home page is now incorporated into the LitNet home page, making this accredited section of LitNet fully integrated with the LitNet hypertext environment.

LitNet Akademies’s academic articles are augmented by LitNet interviews, video clips on LitNet’s YouTube channel, online debates on LitNet’s SeminaarKamer, review essays in our Writers and Books node, etc. We believe that this represents at least the beginning of a new concept for “academic journals” and that we may possibly even challenge the paper language concept of an “academic journal” with our multidisciplinary and dynamic approach within a hypertext environment.

Quite simply, LitNet Akademies will not be found on a dusty library bookshelf in a cellar somewhere!

We are now also launching the legal section of LitNet Akademies and hope not only that excellent academic legal material will be published here, but also that legal experts will contribute debates and insights to our other opinion nodes so that LitNet may make a meaningful contribution to critical legal debates in our country.

Visit our archives

One of LitNet’s most appreciated aspects (and I am regularly approached by local and overseas researchers who regard LitNet as a valuable resource) is its archives. You can now visit the OuLitNet archives (our first platform), as well as the LitNet archives – our second platform.

On every index page two buttons can be found which will take you to what we’ve called Archives 1 (1999-2006) and Archives 2 (2006-2012). The “third” LitNet – the one you’re looking at now – is already growing as Archives 3 (2012 and later) even as you’re reading.

We hope that all of you, with all your energy, will soon turn this third platform into formidable archives!

Quick results with our new search function

Not only academic researchers will gain by our new, more sophisticated search function. For example, any readers can search for articles by their favourite LitNet contributors by simply keying in their name; or you can limit your search to a specific LitNet subsection, such as LitNet Akademies. Research in an instant!

After the launch LitNet will enter a trial phase and you’re welcome to inform us if you experience any problems or find any errors. Help us to stabilise our new platform. All the material from the previous platform (since 2006) will become systematically visible on the new LitNet, but is currently available here.

Click here for more detailed user instructions.

Ook hier moesten we even onze oude browser-geschiedenis wissen ...
